The Human Rights Monitoring Institute announces that for her outstanding work in promotion and protection of children's rights Mrs Rimante Salaseviciute, Children‘s Rights Ombudsperson, won the annual Human Rights Champion Award.

Today, HRMI launched the program of good will ambassadors for human rights. At the launch ceremony in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dainius Puras, HRMI Board Chair, and Ruta Ambrasuniene, Programme Director of the National UNESCO Commission, announced accomplished artist and popular TV personality Nomeda Marcenaite the first good will ambassador for human rights.

In December, already the fifth year in a row, the Human Rights Monitoring Institute together with its partners organizes the Annual Human Rights Awareness Month to commemorate the International Human Rights Day and shift our society to live and act according to human rights principles. This year theme of the month is – Art and Human Rights.

Today the first radio programme from the series „Closer Look at Multpiple Discrimination“ was aired at the radio station „Kelyje“ („On the Road“, Klaipeda City). The programmes are financed by the European Community Programme PROGRESS implemented by HRMI, Lithuanian Centre for Human Rights, and the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson Office.

Thomas Hammarberg, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, visited Lithuania from 19th to 20th October for high level discussions with Lithuanian authorities where a number of human rights issues were raised. He also took part in a seminar on discrimination issues organized by the Swedish Embassy, which is holding the EU presidency, and by the Human Rights Monitoring Institute.
