Human Rights Monitoring Institute

On May 17, 2005 HRMI invited members of Vilnius-based diplomatic community, representatives of international business and associations to present findings of Human Rights Overview 2004.

The Human Rights Monitoring Institute hosts a discussion on the situation of human rights in Lithuania on 17 May 2005, at 9:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of Open Society Fund (Didžioji str. 5).

Yesterday, during Dviguba tiesa (Double Truth) TV programme (Channel 5), HRMI Board Chair expressed his concern with that the provision of free legal assistance to the citizens depends on the goodwill of state officials.

In the TV FORUM programme yesterday, the Chairman of the HRMI proposed to consider the other side of the issue, that is the potential violations of patients’ rights and ensuing trials of loss compensation.

HRMI presented the 2004 Human Rights overview to the State President. The greatest concern was expressed with regard to violations of the right to respect for private life, the right to fair trial and the right to political participation. Discrimination and children's rights were also among the most violated.
