After media reports that racist attacks and comments instigating hatred and violence had appeared on the internet portal lrytas.lt, the Human Rights Monitoring Institute demanded that the comments in question be removed immediately and the persons responsible be prosecuted.

On May 17, the International Day against Homophobia was supposed to take place. However, Lithuania welcomed the day against homophobia with homophobic attitudes and actions.

The Human Rights Monitoring Institute has released the fourth annual overview of human rights in Lithuania. At the press conference, Kestutis Cilinskas (HRMI Board Chair), Dainius Puras (HRMI Board Member and Member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child), Henrikas Mickevicius (HRMI Executive Director) and Jolanta Samuolyte (HRMI Research Director) presented the overview and answered questions by the media.

The Human Rights Monitoring Institute was asked by the Lithuanian Journalists Guild to evaluate a cooperation agreement between the editorial office of Elektrėnai's town newspaper and the local police. The evaluation clearly shows that the above mentioned agreement creates favorable circumstances for limiting freedom of speech and hinders the reader's ability "to receive just, exact and impartial information."

“Youth against Racism” was the last in a series of events organized by HRMI within the annual "Action Week against Racism." On Monday March 26, high school students and teachers from different regions of Lithuania came to the Centrum Hotel in Vilnius to learn about and discuss these important issues and have some fun while doing it.
