European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg delivered its judgment in the case of L v. Lithuania. ECHR stated that while Lithuanian law had recognised transsexuals’ right to change not only their gender but also their civil status, there was a gap in the law regulating full gender reassignment surgery which created an impediment for the transsexual person to complete this process and therefore Lithuania violated Article 8 (right to respect of private and family life) of the European Convention of Human Rights.

Kestutis Cilinskas, Chair of HRMI Board, has announced that his decision on whether to run for the Parliament sit in Alytus electoral district as a competitor to the business baron and figutive of justice Viktor Uspaskich will, primarily, depend on the final conclusion of this suporters.

On 29 June, upon invitation by the Legal Affairs Committee the Human Rights Monitoring Institute presented its annual human rights overview to the members of Lithuanian Parliament.

On 23 June, the Human Rights Monitoring Institute, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Capitals Golf Club introduced „Classics Under the Stars“ - the charity concert for the benefit of HRMI.

On the occassion of the International Refugee Day, on June 19 Human Rights Monitoring Institute in cooperation with the Lithuanian Chapter of Red Cross and the "In Corpore" project by the European Communities initiative EQUAL carried out an Open Day event at the Refugee Center in Pabrade.
