Human Rights Monitoring Institute, in cooperation with the Office of Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson, has issued invitation to the first of the seminars “Closer View on Multiple Discrimination” intended for journalists working in regional media. The seminar will be conducted on April 23-24 in Druskininkai.
Role of media in forming public opinion is quite significant, therefore, cooperation with journalists is one of the key elements in raising public awareness on issues related to promotion of policies of equal opportunities, and promoting tolerance for all regardless of gender, age, ethnic origins, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief.
The issues related to prohibition of discrimination have become a fairly frequent topic in national media, whereas local or regional media have reported and reflected on relevant problems to a much lesser extent. The minimal attention to this issue is, among other factors, the consequence of a shortage of information and knowledge. Having in mind that regional and local media are more popular in the regions than national media, awareness raising and training on issues related to the promotion of the policies of equal opportunities and prohibition of discrimination becomes essential. A series of seminars for reginal and local media will provide necessary information, knowledge and and skills on how to recognize any, including multiple, discrimination and how to take properly address it.
Seminars will be conducted by human rights experts and journalists. Seminars will include practical excercises, field trips, and film screenings followed by discussions. The participants will be encouraged to use the acquired knowledge in daily work. Programme experts will provide feedback on relevant media products.
The deadline for registration 10th of April eithr by e-mail dovile.sakaliene @ hrmi.lt or telephone 8 5 2314681.
Series of seminars for regional and local media are part of the project "Closer View on Multiple Discrimination", carried out by the Office of Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson, Lithuanian Centre for Human Rights and the Human Rights Monitoring Institute.
