Human Rights Violations in TV3 Show "TV Detectives"?

2007 03 21

In appeals to the Commission and the Inspector for Journalists' Ethics, the Human Rights Monitoring Institute has asked them to evaluate whether the producers, journalists and TV3 administration violated the right to privacy of the involved individuals.

On March 13, TV Channel TV3 broadcast the documentary show “TV Detectives” which featured an intimate relationship between a man and a woman in a public elevator. It remains unclear whether the camera was installed and intimate act was recorded and broadcast with the consent of the involved individuals. HRMI also considers the recommended age restriction N-7 to be improper for a show with such adult content.  Finally, the show was broadcasted at about 9.00 pm, allowing it to be seen by children.

Texts of the appeals (in Lithuanian) are here and here.
