HRMI Executive Director Henrikas Mickevičius further called for sustained attention to human rights violations committed on a regular basis in Lithuania. His comments came during a live debate on Lithuania News Radio "The Key" program.
"Human rights situation in Lithuania demands a lot of attention," said Mr. Mickevičius. "We are dealing with many human rights violations in the sphere of right to privacy recently, but it is important to note, that they were being committed for a long time. But only now they've gone public as the violations have touched the prominent public fugures. It has become evident for everyone that human rights are not to be ignored any longer in Lithuania."
He emphasized the first and foremost attention to the human rights situation should be expressed by government officials and law enforcement agencies. "The Human rights convention should become a must, not only a theoretical principle," urges Mr. Mickevičius.
The show is broadcasted 9:10-10:00 a.m. on Žinių Radijas (News Radio). Moderator: Audrys Antanaitis.
