The Recording of Telephone Conversations and their Usage in Legal Proceedings Raises Concerns to the HRMI

ELTA, 12 July 2004. "The usage of the evidence of this type in the criminal proceedings is regarded with special reserve in the rule of law since the state-of-the-art technical equipment today makes it very easy to interfere with telecommunication devices, modify or create new contents of the transferred data, while the contacting parties remain unaware of this,” – claimed Henrikas Mickevičius, the Director of the HRMI, during the Press Conference on Monday. There are cases when falsification is impossible to prove, esp. when a huge record library is collected or the record is made on a cell phone with major interference present. In principle, the same was confirmed to ELTA by Elena Martinonienė, Press Relations Person of the Special Investigation Service.
