Leonidas Donskis, MEP, Darius Kuolys, Director of the Civil Society Institute (CSI), and Henrikas Mickevičius, Executive Director of the HRMI, have submitted 11 questions to the Head of the State Security Department (SSD) Gediminas Grina, which are expected to contribute to an investigation, Grina is about to initiate.
In response to a request to initiate an investigation on possible threats to national security and human rights violations in Eglė Kusaitė case, the Head of the SSD stated that the fears expressed in the request are of great concern to the SSD as well. Grina expressed the will to objectively carry out an internal investigation, and asked for information regarding "the actions of the officers of the SSD that could have violated human rights and freedom" that Leonidas Donskis, HRMI, and CSI are aware of.
It is unlikely that Lithuanian citizens possess more information about the inappropriate actions of the officers of the SSD than the Department itself. Nevertheless, wishing to assist the objective internal investigation, human rights defenders suggest Gediminas Grina answers openly a number of questions circulating around the public discourse for quite some time now.
Letter to the Head of the State Security Department and the 11 questions (in Lithuanian) can be found here.
